Klaus Jochen Keiner

Klaus Keiner, born 26 September 1920, Malapane, Silesia, died 13 February 1945, Nagykovácsi, began service in battery 7 of the 24th artillery brigade. Bravery soon won him promotion and a place at officer-training school. He suffered slight wounds earlier, but on 9 March 1944 he was shot in the thigh and lower left arm by a Soviet aeroplane gun. On 1 May 1944 he was promoted singly to a captaincy at the early age of 23. On 1 November 1944 he became first aide to the commander of the 13th artillery brigade. During the siege of Budapest, he was hit on the head by a piece from a terrace hit by the artillery and suffered grave concussion. On 25 December 1944 he was still able to talk on the telephone to his father, General Walter Keiner of the Berlin High Command, who at the time was commanding the auxiliary army.
