Dénes Csáthy
Dénes Csáthyi was born on 1 May 1919 in Szikszo. His name was Hungarianized from Kriston at an unknown date. After graduating from the Ludovika Academy in 1940, he was promoted to the rank of artillery lieutenant. In 1943, he was transferred to the assault artillery, and in August 1944, he was sent to the front as 1st Battery Commander of the 10th Assault Artillery Division. Between September and October he took part in the 2nd Army's fighting in Transylvania and then in the operations outside Budapest. In the days following the encirclement of the capital, his battery played a key role in holding South Buda, but several Hungarian assault guns were fired. Csáthy was severely wounded by shell shrapnel on 2 January 1945. He was transferred from the Sziklak Hospital to the Váli Street Hospital on 7 March 1945, and after his recovery he was assigned to the Defence Ministry's Department of Defence in the autumn of 1945. According to his description at the time, he was "a highly qualified, extremely ambitious, active young officer who gives hope that he will be able to hold his present post with distinction in all respects." in comparison, his relationship ended shortly afterwards
In 1946 he became a member of the Hungarian pentathlon team, but in 1949 he was arrested and stripped of his rank. He was sentenced to one year in prison, then interned in Recsk, and after his release he was banned from Budapest. In 1954 he founded the pentathlon section in Győr.
